NEXT MEETING:

News

Find Joomla! and Joomla! London related news here.  We show the latest security updates, Joomla! announcements, information about past and upcoming meetings, and anything else we think might be relevant.

This is just a summary post of some neat plugins I found recently.  I am going to start posting my finds as a blog post and then share on social as opposed to sharing them only.  I would like this to be an open repository for ideas.

jQuery Scroll path

This is a neat little project that allows you to follow a path by scrolling with your mouse (or browser).  Unfortunately it is no longer being maintained, so if anyone wants to chip in and help, go right ahead, here's the Github.  Even so I found it nice to use, and just because it isn't being maintained, that does not mean it is not stable.  As it's on Github you could always fork it and maintain it yourself.

Date Dropper - a jQuery date plugin

The date field can be implemented pretty horrendously at times.  Often not responsive, difficult to style, and for one reason or another, it just ends up looking reasonably ugly (in my opinion).  This little plugin is a beaut, the website is here.  Brilliantly, there's a timedropper too!  They've got you covered, check out the timedropper website here

Fixed Content.  A fixed sidebar (or any other content) that scrolls with your page!

I'm sure you've all seen these on other websites, perhaps a sticky navigation sidebar that scrolls with your page.  This is just one way to integrate such a feature, by all means share others in the comments.  Here's the Fixed Content site.  Unfortunately the demo didn't work in an embedded iFrame, but you can see it by visiting this page.

jQuery Mapael - Vector based maps, they look great, and you can plot on them

Interactive maps, they always look cool to me.  It takes a certain situation for them to be useful, and for most of my sites I create a Google map, but even so, customers often request styled maps, and if you are doing anything artistic with the site, this may be one option you decide to look at.  There are tonnes of glorious examples on their homepage.  Just hover on a few things and you will get the gist.  All of their examples have a fiddle attached, which I think is absolutely awesome!!!  Just click "result" on the fiddle below!!!

To Summarise...

That's all for today, I hope it gave you some ideas as to the sorts of things you can bring to your design.  Although these items are not strictly speaking Joomla!  It would be quite easy to ingrate some of them into Joomla! Plugins.  I highly recommend Yireos book Programming Joomla! Plugins.  If anyone integrates any of them let us know and we will test it and do a featured article on your plugin.  If anyone is using any other cool plugins, jQuery, JS, PHP, or anything else, why not join us and start blogging with us.
